Mr. Linton (elder)

Mr. Linton (elder) is the master of Thrushcross Grange and the father of Edgar Linton and Isabella Linton, representing the refined, genteel civilization of the valley against the raw, untamed world of Wuthering Heights. Though he appears only in the early stages of the novel, his actions and his death have far-reaching consequences, shaping the fates of both families and setting the stage for the tragedy that follows. He is a figure of conventional propriety and social distinction, yet his well-meaning interventions and his fatal illness inadvertently contribute to the very divisions and resentments that drive the plot.
